Changes to the ICH CAHPS Survey Questionnaire

Survey vendors should note that the Coordination Team is in the process of revising the ICH CAHPS Survey Questionnaire that will be used during the 2015 Spring Survey. The revised mail survey questionnaire will be sent to all ICH CAHPS survey vendors via email today. The same changes will be made to the telephone script; however, we are in the process of revising the interviewer introduction in the telephone script, so the revised version will not be available until early January.

We are notifying ICH CAHPS Survey vendors of these changes now so that they can begin making changes to their survey materials and associated computer programs.

Changes to the ICH CAHPS Survey.

1. The age (Q56) and gender (Q57) questions will be deleted.
2. The wording in Q59 (How well do you speak English?) will be revised to read “What language do you mainly speak at home?” The response options for Q59 will be as follows.
   English
   Spanish
   Chinese
   Samoan
   Russian
   Vietnamese
   Portuguese
   Some other language (please identify)
3. Q60 (Do you speak a language other than English at home?) and Q60a (What is that language?) will be deleted.
4. The OMB Disclosure Notice has been changed to include a specific mail stop at CMS.

With the deletion of these questions, note that the question numbers for the questions that follow Q56 in the current questionnaire will change. For example, Q58 in the current questionnaire will become Q56. The Coordination Team will is revising the XML schema and data submission tool that will be used to submit 2015 Spring Survey data; however, the revised data submission materials will not be posted until late January 2015.
