The In-Center Hemodialysis Survey Mode Experiment
folder_openOther Announcementscalendar_todayPosted February 6, 2014

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is currently conducting a randomized mode experiment as part of the In-Center Hemodialysis CAHPS (ICH CAHPS) Survey with a sample of patients who are receiving in-center hemodialysis to determine whether they respond differently to the survey based on data collection mode. In addition, data from the mode experiment will be used to determine which, if any, patient characteristics affect the ratings of the care they receive. If needed, during the national implementation of the ICH CAHPS Survey, CMS will develop models to statistically adjust survey results before comparative results are publicly reported. Comparative results from the ICH CAHPS mode experiment will not be publicly reported.

RTI International, a non-profit research organization headquartered in Research Triangle Park, N.C., is assisting CMS with data collection and analysis on this component of the ICH CAHPS Survey. Some patients included in the ICH CAHPS Survey Mode Experiment sample might contact their hemodialysis facility with questions about the survey or ask for help completing the survey. CMS would appreciate it if facilities ask their patients to call RTI’s toll-free telephone number (1-866-245-8083) if they need more information about the survey.
